Trump made similar comments in May, but has not taken action yet

As of now, it may not have been effective before and it is unclear how the U.S. government plans to impose any proposed tariffs on the film. Even many film productions from Hollywood studios are essentially multinational companies, involving crew members from multiple territories on different missions, and may often involve scenes that require shooting outside of the United States. In March 2024, the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization expanded the suspension of tariffs on electronic transmission (digital goods) until the next meeting or March 31, 2026, whichever is earlier.
It is not clear which anime will be affected by this proposed import tax. Many modern anime productions are co-produced and funded by companies from Japanese companies and other countries. Although anime production is still mainly composed of Japanese staff or people living in Japan, some anime productions or personal plots have been subcontracted to Chinese or Korean studios, or animators have been hired in other staff members outside the United States (other countries) and in Japan.
