Ishii published this novel in 2001. The novel centers on Giuseppe, known in his town as “The Obsessive” because of his tendency to become obsessed with one particular thing for a short period of time, during which time he doesn’t care about anything else. One day, he met a balloon seller named Pechika and fell in love with him at first sight. Although Giuseppe tried to get closer to Pechica, Pechica’s inner sadness kept him at a distance. Giuseppe enlists the help of his Mosu friend Chiello, who slowly helps Pechica with his former obsession.
