Episode 5 – Secrets of the Silent Witch

Despite her overwhelming strength and excellent thoughts, Monica’s childhood tragedy makes her a person who doesn’t want to stand out. She was afraid of saying the wrong thing, she just wanted to be ignored, which is why so ironic that her attempts eventually led her to create silent magic and far beyond her. That is to say, her reputation is something she escapes from. After all, despite being one of the seven strongest mages in the Kingdom (probably the strongest), she chose to hide herself in a remote cabin with only one young local girl visiting, that is, perhaps the least threatened.

But Monica’s second incident of school life has begun to lift her out of this stagnation. Not only did she have two friends riding or de in Lana and Isabelle, but the student union also began to see her math abilities in order to achieve their true miracles. In other words, she was accepted for the first time in her life and now she can finally surpass the boxes she made.

In the case of this episode, this means finding one or two clubs to join. Of course, she wanted to avoid any magic clubs because 1) she was easily revealed as The silent witch 2) She already had negative experiences when it comes to a magic school. While this gives you some comedy, the two clubs she opted to join are even more interesting: chess and horse riding.

Chess is a club that makes perfect sense to Monica. As a mage of battlefield training and experience, she worked hard on all kinds of variables and strategies in the war. Steam all this into a game where all the randomness is thrown aside, and everything left is pure calculations – well, it seems like the perfect game for those who fall in love with the number.

This also gives us a better understanding of Elliot as a character. He believes that everyone has a place in society and should not surpass it. As a nobleman, his role is to rule responsibly and act fairly. But when Monica starts to beat him on chess, he finds himself in an inner conflict. His pride refuses to let a bastard kid defeat a full-blood noble like he did. But to win, he needs to pull a mean trick (he never explained the Caslin Rules to Monica, so her work is not deployed in a way that goes against it). Therefore, he needs to break his values to protect his worldview, and he does so, which is great for his inner gui. Of course, for Monica, she doesn’t think she knows all the rules and doesn’t feel frustrated with her losses.

The second club, Monica, joined the horse riding, which was far from her comfort zone. But seeing the beauty of the world from riding a horse height expands her horizon even for a moment. It’s something she’s never experienced normally – far beyond the scope of “What Monica Everett can do”. But with a little encouragement, she could see that the box she placed herself in really had no walls, and that she could decide her own abilities alone. In short, this is Monica’s most amazing thing in this series so far.
