WasabiCon PDX 2025 pop culture conference announced on X/Twitter on October 27 that the event was canceled and the entire conference was “suspended.”

The post explains that this summer, the event’s date was pushed back to coincide with Portland Pride, which “proved to be somewhat challenging.” [the staff] Green Mustard Entertainment also explained that the move was not their choice. Because of these challenges, staff postponed the event “in hopes that stabilization of the local market would become more manageable.” Staff added, “That was not the case.”

Green Mustard Entertainment has decided to part ways with the Portland Downtown Hilton and cancel this year’s WasabiCon PDX. The event, originally scheduled for July 19-20, has been postponed to November 29-30.

Green Mustard Entertainment said there are no plans to hold a WasabiCon PDX event in 2026 and that staff are “taking time to evaluate what works (and what doesn’t) in Portland because [they] Make decisions for the future. “The campaign will issue refunds over the next few weeks.

Green Mustard Entertainment acquired Anime PDX and Newcon PDX in 2018. The event was initially held at the Portland Airport Sheraton Hotel, but the event “quickly outgrew” the venue. The timing of the venue change to the Portland Downtown Hilton coincided with the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

Green Mustard Entertainment also hosts WasabiCon events in Florida and plans to host WasabiCon NOLA in Louisiana in May 2026.
