The fire extinguisher warriors who stopped the fire were called “cassowaries”. Matsunaga Gengo, once known as the “Cassowary”, was the best fire samurai in Edo. He resigned from the fire brigade for some reason, but suddenly received an invitation to join the New Zhuang Family. The Xinzhuang family’s fire brigade has no money, no personnel, and is looked down upon by the people around it. Encouraged by his wife Miyuki, Gengo decided to rebuild the collapsed firefighting family as the president. Gengo and his friends each have their own characteristics, and despite being ridiculed as “ragged high jumpers” (= “Boro-Tobi-Gumi”.), they still strive to “save any life”. In Edo, a series of mysterious and suspicious fires known as “Fox Fires” continue.
