When the novel compares to generations of readers, the latest anime is an exciting attempt for many anime fans, continuing to bring Anne’s adventures to life.
The story follows an 11-year-old orphan of the same name, an imaginative red-haired girl, her journey of self-discovery. Initially, a family expecting a boy to be able to work on a farm worker, Anne fell into the ups and downs of sticking to her infinite curiosity and optimistic worldview, winning her victory in the hearts of everyone she meets.
To celebrate the anime, the producer Yoshiko Nakayama and Honodis inoueThe voice behind Anne is Anime Center 2025. There, they held a group where attendees watched the creation of the show behind the scenes.
Nakayama and Voice actor Inoue discusses Anne of Green Gables’ timeless appeal, adjusting the first three volumes to the fun and challenges of anime, and their efforts to ensure the magic of the story resonates with the younger generation.

Lucy Maud Montgomery‘ Green Gable Annie It triggered many adaptations, including silent film, radio, stage and television adaptations, and Japanese animation1979 animation. What aspects of Montgomery’s storytelling attracted you and inspired you to reimagine Anne’s world through the cameras of the anime?
Yoshiko Nakayama: I love Green Gable AnnieI’ve been reading it enthusiastically since junior high school. This is a story, you can’t see big developments. It’s always a story about a small part of life that happened. But, through the story, you’ll see Marilla warming up for Anne, who overcomes many obstacles in life with her vivid imagination. She didn’t escape any difficult challenges she faced. This is the little courage and appreciation I want to bring to the screen everyday life.
How do you strike a balance between capturing the original charm of the story and attracting a modern audience?
Zhongshan: One thing is to come up with a rhythm that won’t attract young audiences today. And make sure they will be seduced and curiously caught up with the next episode. All plot titles are also ruled out from famous quotes in the novel.
From the beginning of the show, Anne has a fantasy and deep appreciation of the miracles that life is often overlooked. inoue-san, what guides you to bring basic aspects of her character into life?
Honodis inoue: I have no specific intentions or goals to achieve Anne. However, for this show, most animations have already finished recording sessions, so I can grab all the little expressions and gestures Anne makes. I was very able to adapt to the role and then play her this way.
oneNe Shirley is a character who effortlessly appeals to those around her with her sincerity, even if she blurts out to those who laugh at her. How did you prepare for an iconic and beloved character expression like Anne?
inoue: I think Anne is a character, different from the others around me. I think it’s her charm, which is probably why many people are in the context of the story and the readers’ charm. As far as I am ready to show my character, this is not really what I am preparing for, but trying to draw oneShirley in my heart. It’s not as good as oneSomeone might imagine Shirley; I tried to bring it to life. So, be ready, if I’m really ready for anything, it probably won’t really answer your question. Maybe I’m not ready to take as many things as possible.
As a branch of this question, what aspects of Anne’s personality are the most pleasant and challenging to convey in the booth?
inoue: The best part isNE Shirley talks about a lot of gems of expression. It was a joy for me to be able to really speak out my own role. The most challenging part is that in the show, the animation is usually done. So I actually have to match the character’s mouth. It was a little unusual for me, so I found it to be a challenge.
What did your favorite Anne read in the anime?
inoue: oneNE Shirley’s words are the first episode. I apologize. I forgot the notes in the room so I didn’t have an exact offer, but Anne mentioned how beautiful the world is. What if I can find it after the next question?
certainly! The next question I want to ask is, what specific scenes are there in the book you are most excited or hesitant to come to life?
Zhongshan: What I’m looking forward to is that when Anne grew up and went to Edmonton to attend college, [meets her roommates] In Patty’s place. Roommates are becoming more common in Japan, so this kind of life clip is what I expect in the animation.
inoue: (Hold up your smartphone and stick the charm of your phone on the table) ah!
Have you found it?

I’m given [the script] To read in the audition, I was very worried that I might be overwhelmed by the world’s expectations for such a highly respected character.NE Shirley. But I feel very encouraged that I can provide such encouraging lines and playIt’s Shirley.
What makes aNe Shirley’s story has been through generations, what emotions do you want fans to carry with you after each anime plot?
Zhongshan: For me, it is a story where an orphan girl often finds herself in a disadvantaged situation, but through her vivid imagination she inserts terrible thoughts into words, is accepted, and brings joy to a conservative village. At first, even if readers and viewers might find most of her Yuppie girl, she ends up being cute and then we come to love her.
inoue: I saw Annie [as someone] Don’t be pushed by everyone else around her. She has her own way of working. I think that’s her charm – she’s never been buried. I believe that is why readers and viewers around the world continue to love her. She has a strong core and vivid imagination to support this.
I hope that is the kind of power that encourages many people. She will be the one who pushes everyone back to the world and continues to encourage. It sounds like I am a person who gives everyone encouragement. It’s not me, it’s Anne character, so I’m with her.
