Episode 8 – The Fated Magical Princess: Who Made Me a Princess

We finally meet, Janet. But who, or what, are you? According to Athanasia’s dreams, she believed that Janet was Claude’s illegitimate daughter, who was adopted and raised by Duke Alpheus until she replaced Assi as Crown Princess. This is all fine and serves dramatic purposes (betraying the fact that the dream has replaced a book called cute princess In this adaptation), even before Lucas realizes Janet’s true identity, it raises a lot of questions.

The most important of these issues is that if Janet and Elsie are supposed to be about the same age, and Janet is the younger of the two, and if not, then the chances of her actually being Claude’s child drop dramatically. Although Assi’s mother Diana does not play a major role in the story, the most crucial legend is how crazy Claude fell in love with her. He even neglects his own daughter because she reminds him of his lost wife. Would a man so devoted to his spouse have an affair with his ex-fiancée? If Arcee was the same age as Janet, that meant he had to sleep with his ex while Diana was still alive. If Janet had been born before or after Elsie, he would have either courted Diana or mourned her, which still doesn’t make sense for a man who shunned all company except the unavoidable. It just doesn’t add up.

Of course, we do know that Claude has an older brother. Janet might be his But an illegitimate child? Maybe, but again, the timing wouldn’t be right since Claude was already king when Assi became pregnant, which would be unlikely to happen if his brother was still alive. Therefore, it’s almost impossible for Janet to be truly related to Claude and Elsie, despite her jewel-like eyes… which is why Lucas observed that she’s a chimera. Unlike other stories, in who made me a princessThe Chimera is a being tampered with by dark magic, in which case I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the reason Janet’s eyes were the color of the legendary gem. We’ve seen Alpheus show how much he wants to have an impact on Claude. His original plan was to have Ezekiel become Assi’s study partner. When this fails, he attempts to get Janet into the palace as Elsie’s playmate. Now that that plan also failed, he’s busy making other plans, including sending Ezekiel to study abroad, which might make it harder for him to refuse a place in Cloud’s inner circle. But it was still a wise move for him to hold a child with jewel-like eyes, even if he couldn’t count on Claude continuing to reject his biological daughter.

This is almost certainly what Assi sees as the most important change going forward. Instead of rejecting Atanasia, Claude embraced his daughter wholeheartedly. When he picks her up and holds her and then promises to love her forever, it’s very different from almost everything else we’ve seen from him. he never explain Love was the word, but it was too soon for him; his sweet confirmation that he would always do it was enough. As Lucas points out, Elsie completely changed the future, saving herself and most likely Ezekiel.

But what about Janet? It’s hard not to feel sorry for her. She was such a sad, lost little girl, and it was obvious that Ezekiel was the only one who cared about her. It’s a bit like her and Elsie’s lives have changed, with Janet now the neglected daughter and Elsie basking in the adoration of others. This is very typical of villain isekai, and this takes a lot of cues from it. (Even in the isekai era, though, Elsie was never a villain.) But the difference is that even when looking at things from Elsie’s adult perspective, all the kids in this story are just children. They were completely at the mercy of the adults’ whims, Elsie managed to make things better, and Alpheus’s two children were completely at his mercy. They don’t have an agency, which puts them in a much worse position than Essie. Ezekiel will probably be fine, but Janet is still with Duke Alpheus and has no known allies. Is it worth destroying one lovely princess to save another?
