Kakao Creative Foundation Expands Workspace Support for Webtoon Creators – News

Plans to support 21 teams (66 creators) last year, fully covering their rent

Kakao Creative Foundation, Kakao Entertainmentthe parent company of Webtoon platform snackThe company announced on September 1 that it has partnered with South Korea’s Manhwa Directory (Komacon) to provide creative workspaces for 158 Webtoons and content creators.
The program provides subsidized studios in Bucheon’s Webtoon Convergence cluster, aims to provide creators with a stable environment to focus on their work while strengthening South Korea’s wider IP ecosystem. This year’s beneficiaries include a team of 49 creators who will receive 75% of the studio rental for one year.
The Workspace Support Program was launched in 2024 and received immediate positive reactions from creators. Last year, the program supported 21 teams (66 creators), fully covering their rent. Works produced by the program have been recognized by the industry, including great (Kakao Webtoon), the award won the Minister of Culture Award at the 2024 Korean Content Award. To date, the center’s creators have developed over 55 serialized web pianos, 10 web novels and web station stories, and 8 animation projects.
Inspired by this success, Kakao Creative Foundation expanded its budget by 40% this year and more than doubled the number of support teams. Kakao provides the program with well-established selection and update standards to ensure equity, sustainability and inclusion, covering not only commercial works but non-commercial creative projects as well.
