Iwakura Aria Game Review – Game Review


We tend to look at the past in a rose-colored light or a tan tan. Yes, bad things happened a long time ago, but it was still a simple period – no internet, no phone attacks, just a world that seems not very real, if not better. Iwakura Ariaa visual novel from the original Mageabsolutely understand this. Set in 1966, far enough away, we may not interact with people who live regularly, but rather in the memory of a portion of the population. This makes it hazy and the story energizes the story.

The plot comes after 16-year-old Ichiko Kitagawa. She is an orphan, she grew up in a foster home and an orphanage, and now her compulsory education is completed and she needs to enter the workforce. It turned out that it was not easy. When we first met her, she was at the flea market, selling items, which made the orphanage an orphanage even though she was already old. Among the things for sale, she took a picture, which attracted the eyes of a man named Amane Iwakura. He bought her paintings, making her an incredible offer: come to his mansion as a living maid. He said he is an art-loving daughter and he wants Ichiko to interact with her. Ichiko is excited and accepts it, but when she arrives at the mansion, it quickly becomes apparent that everything is not everything seems.

The biggest advantage of this game is that nothing is wasted. This applies to background details, tiny character interactions, and almost all the major conversations that occur. This allows the story to create a world of deep realization without overwhelming the player and helps progress in the overall plot rather than “twisting”, but I’m going to say that it drops revelations like bread crumbs, occasionally leaving the whole bread on the trail. This brings a sense of uncertainty to the story because you are never sure which revelation will be the last one or the story once revealed. Surprises always feel like shock, but none of them are blue and everything builds a meaningful story, even if you never doubt things are heading in a given direction.

There are only three main characters, although it can also be argued for Sui, the chef. Ichiko is the main protagonist, and most of the games are seen through her eyes. We also get moments from Amane and his daughter Aria’s perspective, which helps sow cues and lets us know that Ichigo is missing. Many of them are done with black and white art (with bright splashes of red), in a stark contrast to other artworks, which are full color and medium-realistic. (Aria’s face, in particular, may be a bit incredible, but can be paired with the plot.) Aria is the least known character we hear, and it makes sense: Although the game is named after her, she is even more of a worship, affection or attraction to those around her. As a person, arias are not necessarily those who allow existence.

As a visual novel, the gameplay is quite simple. Most of the game includes reading and advancing text. Dialogue choices sometimes come up without much rhyme or reason, although these points are always important later and lead to one of nine possible endings of different subjective kindness. In some sections, Ichiko explores or cleanses the mansion, which requires the player to choose which room to enter. Rooms with plot playback information are marked in red, but each room has something to learn and I encourage you to visit each room twice. (Not only that, it won’t change the conversation.) The game has a reliable AutoSave feature, and you can eventually write down an earlier save, but manual save is also accessible via the + button on the switch. It took me longer than I would admit, because after the game was first loaded, it jumped straight in and had to access the manual from the menu which required a + button instead of a y, just like I did in the past. The game is full and well-sounding, and the music is the right trouble – almost in the background until you realize what you’re hearing, I find this working.

Iwakura Aria Not a gentle or sweet game. It deals with questions of love and pain, and whether the character can separate the two things, or whether he or she wants to. There is a lesbian love story, but it’s a dark story that players should realize is involved in cults, violence, self-harm and close relative murderers. Although I didn’t hesitate to call it clear, there were a lot of bloody images. Still, it’s not a game of timid heart or stomach.

In the dictionary, aria is a solo song in an operatic setting. Although the game is named after Aria, the definition of the word is also suitable – whether you think of Ichiko or Aria as a singer, while the other is an accompanist, the two of them together created the Aria of Iwakura Manor. This story never loses this, and the story next to it unlocks at various points in the main storyline, helping to support it.
