Eun Kyung’s diaryoften called the North Korean version anne frankof diary of a girlhas been adapted into a web comic and is available for free.
The Institute of Korean Studies in South Korea (INKS) announced that it will publish a webcomic depicting the daily life of North Korean female high school students through the institute’s official website. The webcomic premiered on October 31st.
The project plans to address declining public interest in North Korea and the issue of unification by presenting the subject in a format familiar to young audiences. The play depicts school life, family, friendship and market scenes through the perspective of the protagonist Eun-kyung, truly showing daily life in North Korea.
The webcomic consists of eight episodes and is designed to help readers understand North Korean society in a more vivid and relatable way. The institute hopes the work will serve as an educational resource, connecting teachers and students and giving young readers a natural understanding and empathy for life in North Korea.

Eun Kyung’s diary Based on the true story of Eun Kyung (pseudonym), a North Korean woman who fled the country and settled in South Korea. The book is based on her own narrative and edited by Young-soo Kim, Yu-seok Seo and Hyung-uk Choi. The memoir, first published in 2024, attracted significant attention in South Korea for its candid portrait of daily life under the North Korean regime and the woman’s journey to freedom. The book was later adapted into a musical of the same name.
