With the release of Ink Pop’s first comic title Umi Takase‘ I want to be your girlI believe this brand new imprint has a set task in mind: unleashing comics directly targeting young readers. As from Random House Shared by Whitney Leopard, the executive editor of graphics, bringing the right comics into the hands of young readers can be a challenge at every level – you are a thoughtful publisher or experienced librarian. but I want to be your girl Showcase, a great youth title can provide some amazing food for the mind.
Needless to say, any book that talks to the LGBTQIA+ theme is subject to a degree of frustrating and hateful scrutiny, especially if you live in the United States now. But high school romance is a refreshing reading that keenly understands the feeling of being a trans student—they just want to grow like anyone else. This inner truth is the crux of this story.
Hime knew who Akira was for several years, but when the latter decided it was time to live among her peers, she couldn’t help but feel nervous. It seems her protective instinct was pushed to years of protection against bullies who violated her from bullies as “Wine Weak Children” after being pushed into speeding. She also doesn’t help her childhood friend’s high heels. But for Akira, she really doesn’t want to draw attention to the fact that she is wearing a sailor uniform now. This may not lead to the most enjoyable conversation, but learning from these pitfalls has made me a better person and friend.
Shortly after the incident, Hime had a deep mood with a stoic teacher who straightened up everything for her: people would take some time to adjust, but soon after, it was just another normal thing…and her so-called performance of solidarity didn’t exactly help. But they also took the opportunity to continue this conversation: What does your presentation mean to you?
