Episode 9 From the old Bangpkin to the master swordsman is a solid weekly entry that introduces new concepts and character expressions we have never seen before.
This week’s big adventure centers on Beryl and Surena’s journey to catch a horse. This setting involves new elements that we haven’t seen yet. First of all, it’s not just another monster that kills monsters, or villain conflict style. It was a non-violent adventure, where they were forbidden to harm the target and encouraged to bring the horses back to their best shape as it would be a gift. This challenges our heroes to think creatively and use tools or skills we have never seen before, such as Surena’s towel-wrapped arrow ideas. It also depends on the problem solving, without Beryl’s swordsmanship, which helps make him feel like a more complex character and adds diversity to the audience.
The sub-picture is centered around MEWI and requires a bag of school to go to, and Beryl tries to buy it. This is another interesting addition to the series, as shopping on Beryl offers some funny and careful thinking. It’s great to see him play the role of his parents. While I won’t say it has many twists and turns, I was pleasantly surprised when I found the right one. The fact that she goes to buy something for him, too, is also a sweet character moment. It’s great to see that they have found ways to take care of each other and get closer while navigating this novel parent/child dynamic.
The character development plot is a good breakthrough compared to the constant high-risk battles or constant political stances that occur in guilds, churches, etc. I hope we can see more of these entries in the future.
