Episodes 1-3 – There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover! Unless…

I have two ideas I won’t be your lover! On the one hand, the show does a great job of framing characters, who are trapped and imprisoned by preconceived ideas, what it means to establish a specific relationship with people. Renako is ashamed of being introverted due to her experience with her ex-friend and is not satisfied with her life. She wanted to make her debut in high school, but the show involved her despair of so eager to build friendships that she would sometimes be willing to put herself in a compromised position or be willing to ignorant of the blurred line between friendship and romance. She has a strong sense of friendship. Her stubbornness and trauma make it difficult for her to see a friendship perspective that goes beyond the underlying connection. Many things that spin around Renako are the strongest places in the show, but the problem is Mai. Here, things get a little confused.
Mai has similar problems, but from the other side of the spectrum. This is a very talented person who seems to be loved by many, but all of them are superficial. Because of how others view her, she never made a deep connection with others outside of friendship. I saw what the show was going to do in the process of determining she could never be open to anyone (even her friends), so confusing her connection with Renako became an incredible romantic desire. Her new emotions were overcome, and she never thought at the time that they began to hijack her seemingly perfect character, so much so that she made some incredibly dangerous decisions. The problem is, I don’t think the show is doing well and can let me see things from her perspective, at least in the early stages of the series.
Mai has friends she can connect with, but I never understand why she feels unable to open up or talk to those friends. I might be alone, too, but you should be able to talk to your friends just like you should be able to talk to your romantic partner. The show tries to emphasize that the problem with MAI is that she is overwhelmed by these romantic emotions since no one else has to talk to. If she can gradually talk to others, she will be able to better distinguish the difference between a friend and a lover. It may also make it easier for her to control herself, because now, as the series goes on, she is pushing the boundaries in a way that I feel increasingly uncomfortable. By the end of episode two, I already felt strange, even when Mai seemed to imagine her girlfriend”, even if Mai seemed to violate their protocol rules. But the scene at episode three, despite explicit protests in their house where they were not alone, she tried to push for more physical intimacy, leaving a sour smell in my mouth.
I love romance, and these layers of romance gradually show the growth between the two main characters and how they align with the romance development. The show that defines the line between romantic relationships and true Plato friendship is nice, especially when the show does a solid job to determine the two desires for one type of relationship, especially at that time. The problem is that the characters act much bigger than their words and put Mai in a battle I feel like she is fighting the tough battle to make me like her as the character. Whenever she goes too far, she apologizes, but never really adjusts her behavior accordingly. She was so fascinated by the comfort of a place in this pleasant romantic relationship that she didn’t listen or respect the boundaries. She is a funny character because I like some jokes that involve her, like she can’t lie. However, I don’t understand why I should have roots for this character. If anything, I think the show should be more humbled and rely more on platonic friendships, especially since so far, it’s a stronger emotional and romantic crux.
The show has a very good animation, and the sound performance sells out many of the characters’ shaken emotions. I’m curious how the rest of the expansion cast will be linked to the developmental relationship between them. Would other friends participate in it lead to their belief that friendship has more, or is it just a means to make Renako realize that she can only feel comfortable doing romantic things with Mai? I hope the show starts at least before the transition from the former to the latter, because although it is relatively engaging now, it is now messy. I hope this messed up because I saw a lot of potential.
