Episodes 1-3 – Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill Season 2

Meat is back on the menu this season, and you better believe there’s some cooking in this anime. Everything I loved about last season is in this triptych: a cozy and fun fantasy adventure! Delicious food! Lighthearted and humorous! The emerald-green grass contrasts with the blue sky, which is a feast for the eyes! Speaking of candy, did I mention the food is delicious? Because it is. (Also, isn’t it obvious that I haven’t eaten all day? I’m hungry.)
If you read my thoughts The first two episodes pass the fall premiere guide, So you already know where I stand on the first two episodes. To recap: The first episode gave us some of the same stuff we were expecting campfire cooking So far, from Mukohda cooking and sharing food, to Fel begging for food, it’s so out of character for the mysterious Fenrir, but always a joy to watch. The smart elf Dragon Dora makes a grand appearance, while Xiao Shui continues to act as a helper to the slimes, helping them make a lot of money. Cute point. The plot that follows hints at further developments but never quite materializes. The Earth Dragon was pulled from Mukoda’s inventory, and new elf character Elland excitedly tried to slice up the slain beast, but ended up…nothing. I wasn’t necessarily disappointed with this episode, although I did wish there was more going on.
The new third episode picks up on the flaws of the previous one and slowly moves in a new direction. After occupying Muhawkda’s inventory for so long, the slain Earth Dragon was finally put to good use. The zealous Elland was finally able to slice through the dragon with a mithril sword enhanced by Sui’s magic. Erland’s joy is contagious, especially the way he yells in English dubbing– I never thought anyone would be so excited about dragon meat and blood, but hey, they don’t call it food porn for nothing. We are talking about dragon blood potion. We’re talking giant chunks of dragon meat that make the dinosaur steak Fred Flintstone always orders at the drive-in look like an ant’s dinner. We’re talking about meat that looks so delicious marinated in sauce that I forgive Muhkoda for using the pre-made stuff here, although let’s be honest, who among us hasn’t been pressed for time and had to resort to a quicker solution?
The idea of eating an earth dragon allows Dora to create some of the show’s funniest moments. See, one dragon can’t eat another dragon because that’s cannibalism. When Mukoda accuses him of devouring his own kind, Dora-chan finds a loophole: he’s eating an earth dragon, not an elf dragon like him, so that doesn’t count. Considering little Dora spent most of the last episode sitting on the sidelines, it’s nice to see his snarky, smart self back in the foreground.
The episode ends with the reappearance of our useless, hungry goddess, and it goes just as you’d expect. However, unexpectedly, a minor character reappears as the main character here. Her name is Vianca, a guild secretary who likes Phil. After signing up Mukohda, Fel, Sui and Dora-chan for a long-awaited dungeon crawl, we find out she’s interested in Fel. Apparently, when the two met, Phil wasn’t as manly or hairy as he is now. The details here are vague enough for me to come up with some pretty wild theories – was Phil really once a human? I have no idea. I haven’t read the light novel, so while I can’t confirm this, there’s still more to it here and I’m digging it.
This introductory three-episode series continues to serve up some damn comfort food for this anime season. I was curious to see what would happen in episode four – dungeon crawling is something repeated over and over again in the fantasy isekai series, and even though now the anime has done everything it can to prepare for it, my interest was piqued.
Very random and irrelevant point: There comes a moment when Mukoda finds a magical stove to cook his dinner. That’s fine from a storytelling perspective, but why does this magic oven look like a glass-top stove? I have a glass top stove and let me tell you one thing: don’t buy it. Its overall design lacks artistic personality and looks like something made by Hal 9000. Not to mention that cleaning up after each meal is a pain. Trust me: I have one.
grade:
