Episodes 1-2 – With You, Our Love Will Make it Through

You know, I wonder when we’re going to see a game beast star. I’m not even kidding when I say this is probably one of the most exciting public furry animations I’ve seen in a while. Because things are only going to get more intense from here, and based on what people are telling me, I’m super excited for a variety of reasons. I’m also curious how the public will react, since it feels like every year we get a new piece of media that forces everyone to express themselves explicitly, although I personally don’t think appreciating some good furry media is a bad thing.

When you consider that, on paper, this is a very simple story, and has a tried and true setting, we have a typical society that is slowly introducing orcs into its curriculum. Orcs make up only a minority of the population. It’s implied that they are the result of experiments long ago and are segregated even within their own communities, with a checkpoint they must pass through for “public safety.”

There are many allegories you can make about what orcs might represent in the real world. Most of the furry mainstream media likes to go this route. Some people just instinctively bully Tsuna even though he doesn’t really do anything because his whole existence “threatens” them after he disrupts the “local power dynamics”, which is very poignant. These two episodes didn’t really go anywhere, but I hope if With you, our love will survive the storm To tell this type of story, it doesn’t conjure up straw men or sideline its subjects like similar media.

The best – and arguably worst – part of the show is the romance, which is the main focus. I like Tsuna as a character. He is a soft-spoken, gentle giant who is forced to be hypersensitive and self-conscious about his relationships with other people. He hates himself for acting on instincts he has no control over, always trying to put others before him, and you can tell it’s not just because it’s what he’s been told he needs to do; That’s just him. I can understand why Mary would have a crush on him, but I also think the show may have shown it too quickly. Mari doesn’t give a specific reason, and it happens after such an intense physical scene, so it kind of rings hollow. I wish we knew more about what this relationship actually looks like.

This may have been done to explain these more passionate and intimate moments more quickly. In the second episode, it’s suggested that these passionate moments are triggered by hypersensitivity to your partner’s emotions. Everything is fine when our two protagonists are casual with each other, but when Mari starts to seem to crave something, that’s when Tsunagu starts to spiral out of control. This is interesting because it means that the rather tense moments we’ve had so far have been completely consensual. What’s nice is that the show proves that Tsuna can actually control himself in these situations, and that Mari is also capable of saying no. It’s always a fine line you have to walk when dealing with a show that uses passion as a defining plot point.

As for the intimate scenes themselves, we haven’t crossed the line yet. The lighting on this show is dramatic, with very heavy shadows outside of the comedic moments, it almost feels like you’re watching it through blinders. It can be a little distracting at times, but it fits the wallflower effect the show is going for. It has a voyeuristic quality that makes your heart beat faster. There’s a lot of setting up here about the world and its characters. I hope this is all more than an excuse to show off some spicy material.
