The episode of this week The Secret of the Silent Witch Spend it on focusing on the sequelae of Casey’s attempt to assassinate the Second Prince. The problem Monica faces is that while Casey objectively becomes an enemy of the kingdom and tries to kill Monica, Monica still sees the girl as her friend.
This paused Casey than anything else. She spent the rest of her life in a monastery (I didn’t have it if you believe Louis). But, while she doesn’t regret what she’s trying to do, she does regret the impact it has on Monica. Casey is one of the few people in the world who know both sides of Monica, the pain of suffering from child abuse and the oldest mage. Casey hopes to make her exile/execution easier on Monica so that Monica strives to replace her grief with hatred or indifference. But, unfortunately, Monica is not that kind of person.
As a result, Monica was struggled to cope with her own sense of loss. She was forced to ride alone – a sport she chose was to spend more time with Casey. Her only comfort was that she would see Casey again in the future and could tell her about her experience. But this is just the emotional pain side she faces.
On the other hand, she regrets the whole situation. She was weird at that Casey, but she never faced the girl. If she had, maybe the entire assassination plot would be exposed in its infancy, discouraging Casey from doing anything rash. Of course, we know things will never be so simple. Casey is too committed to her career to swing from her path – I’m sure Monica knows that, too.
Her action to cover up the assassination attempt then had unexpected consequences. By keeping Casey’s name clean, the Dangerous Drop Committee’s blame fell on Cyril, which made him have both inner and dirty names in the process. Worse, there was nothing she could do to solve the problem. She hurts one friend to save another, and has nothing but an endless apology in tears.
This episode also provides us with more information on why Felix is interested in Monica. Whether consciously or subconsciously, he saw his young self in Monica – when he was a boy, he did nothing, completely accustomed to the ways of hatred and indifference. Since then, he has obviously grown in surprising ways (and “why” and “how” are still a mystery), but we see him being forced to play an active supportive role in Monica’s life.
Then there is an extra layer, Felix is a huge The silent witch fan. She was in the academy and worked hard to protect his personal thoughts – well, he was the happiest idea we’ve ever seen on screen. He was almost rushing to the possibility of meeting her. I’m sure he’ll find out the truth one day, but it seems like a far-reaching story.
