Episode 3 – Star Wars: Visions Volume 3

It’s not hard to see why Star Wars: Phantasm drama series, The Ninth Jedi Not only does this episode have a sequel (this week’s The Ninth Jedi: Son of Hope) as well as the entire upcoming anime series. Fortunately, she is discovered and taken aboard by the service droid Teto, the only remaining resident of an ancient derelict starship, and the two explore the ship while looking for a way to help Teto’s master.

This story continues from the original work The Ninth Jedi Thematically, Kara is very unsure of herself. Despite her role in defeating the Sith who came to kill Ethan and Juro, she still views these events as a failure – if she had been a true Jedi, her father would not have been kidnapped in the first place. Kara faces the same “to do or not to do, without trying” dilemma that Luke once faced. Because she doesn’t believe in herself—the fear of failure lingers in her every action—she is far weaker than her true potential would suggest.

This episode is tragic because, over the course of her time with Tyto, Kara begins to grow into the person she could become. Together, she and Tyto not only found his master, but fought off a numerically superior force and two specially trained Jedi Hunters. All that confidence was dashed, however, because although she was able to achieve victory in an objective sense, she clearly viewed it as yet another defeat. To her, losing Tyto—even though Tyto had tricked her into saving her and the other Jedi—was another sign that she wasn’t good enough.

Juro, Ethan, and Homan think what she did is amazing – she defeated an army of bounty hunters alone and with an unknown robot. No one looked down upon her. No one thinks of her as a loser – no one but herself. That’s the real moral of the story: the real enemy is not outside, but within.

But can Kara overcome her doubts? We have to wait until next year for the story to continue Star Wars: Visions Presented – The Ninth Jedi.
