Well, I’m not going to lie: I expected a lot of weird people to show up at the DQO, but I was still totally shocked when I saw a guy with a live cat in a gaping hole in his neck. I just…I don’t even understand…actually, you know? I’ll just let it be. After all, that’s what Yuri had to do. This week, we meet Comet, who wears a jelly catcher hat, and Chippy, who for some inexplicable reason has a weird cat hole in the middle of his neck. certainly. why not? Let’s pay the werewolves.
The role of Engineer was introduced last time to change the model further, and of course, whoever is selected for the role will have to accept it. In other words, people can lie about being an engineer just as much as they can lie about being human, which is exactly the story of Yuriko and Stella. Both Claims to be a real engineer. It’s a compelling twist on the usual formula, even if we spend too much time explaining the obvious complications that arise from throwing another variable into the werewolf stew, and that’s before we’re introduced to the Doctor character.
This week, it became abundantly clear that the show needed to be very explicit about the social aspects of the game, as Gina, of all people, ended up being voted into cold sleep for being a little too quiet. That’s not to say that the show isn’t unreasonable in its attempt to dramatize the process of deduction that typically occurs in the minds of people playing video game versions of it. Gnosis;I wish the script had taken away that layer of overt tutorialism from the dialogue. We really need to start establishing the actors’ personalities and relationships more now. While what we get is perfectly functional, I think I would have been more emotionally invested if the character wasn’t so obviously struggling to get Yuri up to speed.
There are some nice minor character beats, though. I found it sad when Gina admitted that, in her cold sleep, she would dream about her… well, “friends” might not be the best way to describe this group yet, but you get the point. Chipie and Comet also bring energy to a much-needed proceedings (even if Chipie and his cat look too completely unhinged to be taken seriously). I particularly enjoyed the worldview we built around the comet’s home planet, and the origins of the intricate patterns of symbiotic fungi that cover her body.
Is this entire sequence a thinly veiled excuse to show off Comet’s nudity as she reveals it to the protagonist? Absolutely. Nonetheless, it proves GnosisCommitted to making alien humanoid characters stand out from basic science fiction. Oh my God, when you realize his dream is to eventually modify himself into become cat. i must give Gnosis Some credit for finding creative ways to play with its sci-fi concept.
However, I must admit that I am beginning to worry about a major problem that may not be easily solved. I mentioned last week that I actually appreciate the worldline style time travel Yuri is using, which means almost every character will be guilty by the end of the series. That still holds true, but the final scene of “Wild Intuition” reveals the flaws in the investigation surrounding the guilty party. In a murder mystery game, the entire crime mystery is solved by investigating clues and suspects after the fact. The best ones give the viewer (or player) a chance to really piece together all the information and figure out the real culprit. The problem with werewolf-style detective stories is that all inferences have to happen as people argue their cases and shift blame elsewhere.
This gives the culmination of these Gnosis The show is structured more like a courtroom drama, except these courtroom scenes have to be played out in just a few minutes, with an ever-expanding cast of characters we’re barely aware of. In other words, it feels incredibly difficult to actually play with Yuri and figure out who might be guilty or innocent; you just sit back and wait for the characters to explain their thinking, then use the few seconds of processing time you have to decide whether it makes sense or not.
That’s why when Chippi finally confirmed that Yuri was mistaken and he yes this Gnosismy reaction wasn’t, “Oh, shit, that’s crazy, he actually fooled everyone with his intelligence!” Instead, my feelings could be summed up simply as, “Oh? Well, cool, I guess.” Small details of his character remained the same after acquisition GnosisIt’s fun, but that’s about it. My only hope is that once the show is over at last Once all of these characters are introduced, we can focus on making the show. Gnosis The survey itself is more convincing. Every game needs a good tutorial, but after five weeks of reading the rules, I was ready to work with Yuri, actually Play.
