Episode 4 – There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover! Unless…

This episode is weird, and it must be a lot of it. While the show did come to a satisfying conclusion, there were enough little things bothering me in this episode. I like the fact that Mai seems to really admit that she messed up. She will certainly fall into her desires and emotions, thus surpassing many physical boundaries. That’s her problem since the show started, and when you combine it with the fact that she admits she’s basically never told, it naturally leads to this situation that ultimately leads to something like this.

Ironically, it feels like the show is still trying to get her a little pampered. I know Renako is going through some very complex feelings and I like her admitting there is a romantic passion that she can’t ignore. She even felt intimate about maybe wanting to continue sitting in the bedroom. However, Renako does make it clear that Mai should stop, and Mai is someone who disrespects Renako’s feelings. From my point of view, a slap is reasonable and there is no need to apologize for it. I’m also a little worried that Mai hasn’t completely detached the course. Her extreme reaction was very interesting, and her whole lifestyle had some charm, but it felt like in that big conversation at the end of the episode, the show was treating her with a kid glove. I like that everything ends in Renako’s way, basically controlling the relationship and making Mai clear that things can go naturally as long as they communicate about it. I just wish there was more conversation about how Mai needed to respect the boundaries of others, if she wanted the emotional achievement she desperately longed for.

I like this episode including the rest of the main cast. I have to see Renako deal with her trauma by rejecting Ajisai, but now I wonder if the show will give us a potential love triangle in the future, as things may be misunderstood. There are a lot of Yuri tensions throughout the plot, and I’m all about it. It was fun to see Kaho that was a gremlin who really cared about money, and I actually actually dug the scene on the roof at the beginning of Satsuki. The only information I really got from this girl is that she is competitive with Mai, but I like that she seems to be the one who puts Mai and Renako in their own place. She is not nonsense about all these complex emotions. I found this very relevant.

Despite my complaints, this is probably the best plot of the show so far. It’s very specific to how it portrays the varying degrees of emotion and passion that all of us girls have. Mai and Renako finally had a conversation and felt like they were on an equal footing. Also, I think the show sets more pranks for the rest of the season by actually having all the girls involved in the drama set up. There are still things that bother me, but now I want to take this in the right direction.
