Episode 4 – The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4

In this expected conflict, the series can’t take more action or engaging choreography. I feel like most of this episode will be attracted by the battle between Jaralis, his warriors and the Tiger siblings, but I also didn’t expect how slow the battle would be. The action has little real weight. Throughout the plot, maybe there are only two truly impressive animation cuts, and you will never really understand the power of all the characters. Given that the entire purpose of this episode is to elevate the White Tiger siblings and showcase their training results, that’s a problem, which has been going on since last season. I know Atla is a talented fighter, but the show never really touches on the end. Her opponent commented on how she was in her royal family, and I’m not sure if she became a skilled warrior because of her bloodline. I hope this is not the case, as there are already a lot of social comments spinning around the beasts and how some of them perceive others, so it feels a bit counterintuitive to emphasize their lineage.

Again, maybe this explains Fohl’s Powerup. I like their family history with more background stories. Regarding their father’s actual death, I immediately called it a call, which fills some gaps about the state that the siblings were in when they found them at Naofumi. It’s still strange that the king is not here to witness either. I feel like if he was there, I’d see how these two people try to outdo their mean situations, especially when he was there to help them alone, I feel a lot of emotional weight would be stronger. I feel like this is the main factor missing in the story, and I’m not sure how you can correct this. What the show does here is OK, but still feels like it’s missing some good emotional content, which can really hit the home. I’m just not sure why I should care about these two.

Also, about Jaralis being a little man, I honestly say he is just a proud coward. I hope to have a better understanding of what he is going to accomplish. Maybe there might be a good similarity between him and the White Tiger siblings. But in the end, it boils down to Jaralis hating his father because he is a good guy, and Jaralis is not. It’s also interesting when Naofumi points out that the horror that Jaralis really doesn’t have to do is weird. Even if his excuse was to throw everything away for power, he could still do all the actions without revealing treason and war crimes. It’s great for what you’re trying to do, but it ends up feeling like the show did a completely simple story and decided to tell it in the most boring way.
