There are some moments that are hard to watch in this episode. It’s not because the writing is terrible or inappropriate, but because the writing becomes very uncomfortable in many ways. I know that the show is sometimes dedicated to these alternative shows or video games for role-playing, and I haven’t won it yet. However, I think this episode perfectly packs a unique idea and feeling when Gojo was playing that horror game. The show telegram said Gojo would be eliminated, but I liked everything about that episode. Not only is the unique pixel art obviously creepy, but the way everything is cut and edited together is really at the heart of why such unconventional horror games are so appealing. Even after beating the game, the conversation Gojo has with other people reminds me of the conversation I have with other people after playing the game Dok Horse Head Literary Club.
This feeling of correlation is everywhere. I love that it deals with Marin’s insecurity, which is a mirror-looking look at the growth Gojo has experienced. Although Gojo has gained greater confidence and has become more introspective of himself, he is still not very good at reading other people. Part of the reason he rebounded so well is because of her intuition. I love how this episode goes back to the first real argument they first started avoiding her first start because he is assuming how she feels about him hanging out. Now, in some cases, Marin is too self-aware of how Gojo feels about her. These insecurities make it difficult for her to get directly with him because she is afraid of what the outcome will be, and this episode depicts it in a believable way.
Gojo’s fictional situation slowly makes excuses to avoid her, because after the rejection, their friendship may be similar to what I personally experienced on both ends. There is nothing huge or overly dramatic, it’s just awkward and uncomfortable. I don’t think Gojo will do anything, but Marin can’t rule it out because from her perspective, he’s knocked down the idea countless times when the two of them face a couple. It usually comes for laughs, but the show never shys away from his intense refusal to make her feel. Personally, I think Gojo does have feelings for Marin, he just didn’t accept what he could accept at that stage of character development. What he rejected Marin was more about him still looking for her than was shocked by the idea. But from Marin’s point of view, people naturally stay intimate but don’t want to be romantically involved.
At the end of last week’s episode, things were very comedic. I know that nothing will happen in terms of the physical intimacy between Gojo and Marin, but the show takes this misunderstanding as an incitement to incite Marin’s character development. Marin seems always straightforward and open to a lot of things, including her interest in sexual media. But, appreciating the media and being willing to jump into this physical relationship are two completely different things. She doesn’t deny the fact that she wants to have a physical intimacy with Gojo. But before, she was always with everything because there weren’t many consequences or bets. She is the kind of girl she will joke with you about keeping the condom in your good luck without being threatened. But now, being forced to be overly aware of one’s own physical boundaries and being connected with others suddenly makes everything more real to make it more real. I don’t know how the season will end, considering that there are clutter throughout the place. However, the rest of the show will delve into Marlin, developing her ability to face those awkward situations, and I’m all for that.
