Episode 4 – Isekai Quartet 3

I have to say, I’m a little confused by this episode. Demiurge may have figured out why Spaghetti turned into an undead and attacked the class, but Ainz and I don’t. Part of me wonders if this is a joke in itself. Usually, when something like this happens, Ainz chooses Demiurge to tell the others his suspicions – both to save face and to get others (including himself) to speed up. This time, however, we get no such explanation—perhaps so that we can share in the confusion Ainz often finds himself in.
On the other hand, I also wonder if the reason Zombie Spaghetti isn’t explained is because it should be obvious – and I’ve somehow forgotten some of the memorable parts Overlord/Tanya/konosuba/Reply: zero Knowledge that the general audience will understand immediately. Of course, not understanding why the class’ spaghetti crawled out of the grave to attack our heroes doesn’t make the event any less fun.
It was fun to see how our hastily assembled team combined personalities to create a plate of pasta. However, each dish is not a simple combination of dishes from each group. Megumin’s bombastic personality essentially overrides the opinions of the rest of her team – although Rem is able to ensure it remains edible. Meanwhile, there are two people on Kazuma’s team who prefer eating to cooking, a dork and a super genius – which means he pretty much has to do it all himself. It’s silly, funny, and generally entertaining – honestly, the most shocking thing is that Otto, a man who actually understands Italy’s screams as they face death, is actually so happy with it that he doesn’t hesitate to toss them into a boiling pot.
Once the spaghetti zombie apocalypse begins, it’s interesting to see how our heroes handle the situation without overreacting (which means a group of them has to stop Megumin before she can cast the blast). There seem to be only two real winners from the whole thing: Darkness, because she was kidnapped by a slimy tentacle monster, and Vessa, who was suddenly left with a ton of food that no one else wanted to eat.
That said, there’s one clear loser in these events: Rem. She’s not physically exhausted like our other heroes, but visibly sleepy. This could be her first sign Reply: zero The other person’s pain affected her. While she’s managed to stay sober, happy, and with no apparent side effects over the past two seasons, that may be coming to an end soon. Hopefully, as Ainz said in the first episode, he and others can not only help her, but also influence her destiny. Reply: zero So is the world.
