Episode 17 – Kaiju No. 8 Season 2

Episode 17 Kaiju No. 8 It is a solid entry, done well under the consequences of Isao Shinomiya’s death.

I’m very happy with the overall development of this week’s episode. I wasn’t that passionate about fighting last week because these activities and dramas shocked me with a compulsive attitude, but I can’t blame the way the post-effect is handled here. Just like in our world, the life of a funeral is far greater than the dead. It allows us to give life to words, remember what makes one person important to us, see others in a wider network of connectivity for a while, and attempts to provide a closed measure of sudden absence.

Isao Shinomiya’s funeral did all this.

Kikoru has a new fire in her belly to succeed and grow into a soldier. Her ability has always surpassed all of this, but now she has assured her father’s memory to take revenge on what happened. Now Kaiju No. 9 becomes a villain because there are more individual shares in the bloodshed it causes. Kikoru is now forced to defeat him and hone his skills with other top-notch members of the first division. It’s a wise move as it changes the power of the department – in most other cases, it’s strictly positive – a challenge to one of our heroes Kikoru. It would be interesting to see how she developed into a warrior.

We also have the opportunity to give Kafka some shine and drama. His transformation may eventually surpass him is a good hook and aligned with other reputable Henshin heroes. It’s a great way to make him very powerful and fully controlled, with little energy management in combat, and there’s also an invisible cost that keeps burning in the backstage. Even if he wins in the short term and doesn’t suffer adverse effects, we always wonder how much the candle burns and whether the next shift will be his last.

It’s a treat to see cleaners again. That was one of my favorite elements in the early days of my story, and it added a wonderful sense of reality to the world. But this was quickly eliminated, and I always felt it was a pity. It’s great to have Kafka back in the middle again and have a different view on violence and combat.
