Episode 16 Kaiju No. 8 It was by far the biggest disappointment.
The premise of this week’s episode lost me from the beginning and never regained my interest. Maybe this is too harsh and I’m too critical. Dear readers, maybe it works for you, and I am delighted with it. But for me, the whole setup of this episode relaxed my interest in its events and made me rethink my enthusiasm for events over the past few weeks.
For me, the core issue is the battle setup between Kaiju No. 9 and Isao. Kaiju No. 9 teleports to his position and the way Isao fights is boring (well, I know he doesn’t convey it completely, but you get what I mean). He skips town instantly and engages in a one-on-one battle with Isao, who tells himself that the next generation has more or less handled the matter. When it happens, I hear groaning because it’s like a policeman saying they’re retired for two days – you know what’s going to happen next. Io said, so of course, Kaju XNine found him immediately and played him solo in a huge battle, only that creativity made it less dramatic at all.
Not to mention that it’s a lot cheaper stuff we’ve just seen. We spent three weeks back to the game for Kafka, just to get Kaiju 9 peace immediately, so far the entire 1st division was unable to chase him before he killed their commander? It might have been a little better for me if there were more chases or battles throughout the town and Kaiju No. 9 pushed them to the command tent instead of going on Kaiju Instant Instant Transmina.
The battle itself is not about going home. Isao has some nice cuts, especially when he refilled lightning/power, but for the most part it’s flat, fast punches and death fakes out. Coupled with the fact that the battle takes place in essentially a ruined parking lot, a group of onlookers commenting on human limits and more, it feels like any easy-to-use action-adventure thing because it lacks the sense of scale that makes Kaiju fight their unique textures.
Hopefully, it will bring more juice and creativity next week.
