OK, Anne ShirleyI will no longer complain about Anne and Diana and other girls of age wearing short skirts and hair. I see what you are going to do now – a visual definition of childhood endings and adulthood. I no doubt muttered without breath, because according to my mother, I have been obsessed with the 1880s since I was toddler, which included proper clothes, but when Anne raised her hair, once she left the green gables and avonlea, letting her down her skirt. From a visual perspective. I’m working hard.
This episode is over Anne leaves Avonleathe second novel in the series is about transition. Miss Lavendar gets married, Diana and Fred get engaged, Mr Lind dies, Anne and Gilbert decide to leave teaching and go to college – these are major life events that can respond to the life of the character. (Gilbert didn’t want to attend other The big step, but he was at least smart enough to recognize that Anne wasn’t ready for it. Anne notes that she is bending on the road and she is not sure if she should be walking around, which sums up the feeling of the episode well. There is nothing to say that you can’t look back, but even moving forward is equally scary and may feel impossible.
Diana’s engagement with Fred was the first major symbol. It doesn’t matter if she’s engaged for at least three years. Her ability to get engaged completely shows that she has grown up, or almost close. (In the late 19th century, women usually got married around the age of 20, so her mother’s rule was no surprise at all.) It was a frightening new step, and her friendship with Anne was a new bump, though of course not necessarily. But it was a big change, and it was a symbol of how she transformed from a bad boy and a slimy emotion into something real. She assured Anne that she would never love another girl like her friend in her arms, but Will be Still changing. Diana’s engagement and Anne’s trip to Redmond College not only went to Queens, but also marked a new stage for friends. They know this very well, at least a little scared.
It’s also interesting to hear Diana discover her man as well, Anne gently hits back her imagination, indicating a small rift between the two. From my position, nothing is like someone telling you that you will understand where it happens to you, not because they are drawing lines, but because they assume we are all on the same path. Anne is not ready for romance. She doesn’t have to be. (She doesn’t once It must be, but we all know she will; LM Montgomery’s No Sarah Orne Jewett, plus Anne’s Little Dreams Fantasy says she’s not ready to hear it. It’s bittersweet, though not sad – just a sign that we all grew up in our own way in our own time.
Anne’s college years and the third novel, Annie on the islandstart next week. She walked along her path, bent high above her head.
