Ahen-san Always surprised me. Yes, yes, that’s not the ending I expected. If I understand things correctly, Aharen and Raido meet each other for five years after graduation, but then see each other as student teachers and then get married. Later, they had children and grandchildren, and Raido became a novelist and astronaut.
Right now, I can completely think of Raido as a novelist who just did a lot of side missions – for example, a journey into space. Not sure how I feel about his beard, but anyway. Meanwhile, Aharen owns an art studio, her statue and Raido are high school students. Even at her age, she didn’t look at all the different places – until the kid called her “grandma” I realized that it might have been a lot of time, even then I kept wondering if it was a little bit because she just didn’t look that old. Either way, both seem to be life that feels right for them and most importantly, they are still together. Prompt the crowd to say “awww” sound effect.
I think what I really didn’t get is the promise of Raido and Aharen to get married the next time they meet (after high school). Like, aren’t you both on any social media or chat platform? Do you don’t have each other’s phone numbers? Don’t you connect with each other outside of school? Of course, you plan to hang out with each other during the summer vacation, right? Maybe this whole thing makes more sense in Japanese, or there is some contextual explanation I’m missing, but as far as I can tell, it’s manifesting so much. “Next time we meet, let’s get married-” “My guy, we’ve been meeting each other in the grocery store, we got movie tickets next Tuesday, and what are you actually talking about.”
However, we have to see that their wedding was lovely. We won’t see those every day, let alone in high school rom-com. I must say that given their height differences, I’m curious if Redo is going to bend down to Ahalen’s level, if he’s going to pick up Aharen, if Aharen is going to stand on the box, or Aharen is going to try to step on Aisle along Aisle on some huge platform (I personally, I wish I could find it later). Unfortunately, their wedding was a quick wedding, covering in just a few minutes. I could easily imagine that they were trying to plan the wedding as the season for this show, and Raido and Aharen were trying to figure out what they would do with their height differences so that you could build at least half the episode. But las.
Speaking of weddings, this brings us to Ishikawa and Hana. Although the series doesn’t say it clearly, it’s weird that it’s been citing Ishikawa all the time, and this week’s plot almost confirms that. He asks Hana to marry him, Hana says he is… something, and then Ishikawa answers, “No one says it has to be one or the other.” On the one hand, bi erasure sucks. It’s great when characters are typically bi, especially when their bisexuality is seen as a joke or a flaw. That being said, why is this series so allergic to gay or bi? For that matter, I think the series does almost nothing, and it’s a really cool storyline, which is a shame – that is, the storylines related to Ishikawa discover and explore his queerness.
In so many words, we got a bag of endings. Given how great the rest of the series is. But overall, this is not my choice for the anime this season (that’s Anne Shirley) is definitely my favorite. I find myself really looking forward to seeing them become a highly imaginative antics week after week, and I will miss the way to get into the summer. That being said, this is probably the biggest sleeper blow of the season. Of course, there are more people who like the ridiculous brand of this series, right? Maybe it’s a series of series that will be discovered or revisited after a while. And, if that day comes, I will prepare a irritable spinner with one hand, the next copy of the animal crossover.
