For anyone who wants to know, Demon Hunter’s Sword The ratings were not high at the beginning of this spring, so the first one COUR No weekly reviews received, but its plot has been well rated throughout the season. That’s why weekly reports start now and I reviewed the first 13 COUR here.
My thoughts on this are mixed: an extended opening with some great tragic drama followed by an emanating period plot, which is stronger than the action performance, brought up by fascinating characters and beautiful twists. Now the series is in its second COUR There is… a strange meaningless plot, no more story essence than editing the show.
I wonder if this episode will skip a decade or so, and it’s a non-age protagonist, which is entirely possible. Instead, it’s mostly flashbacks, set in the time frame of episode one, and Jinta (as he’s called at this point) lives in the village of Kadono. That was his bodyguard for his foster sister Shirayuki, who himself served as the girl in the village.
I would have learned more about Shirayuki’s mother’s off-screen fate, the former girl. She became a victim of the demon (at least that’s what we were told) and it must have caused great trauma to her daughter and the villagers. However, the focus of this episode is on the competition between Gilta and his bodyguard Chiyomasa, the son of the village chief. He has his own feelings about Shirayuki and is not shy about cracking his wife’s bedroom.
He isn’t very interesting, despite the implicit contrast between this portrayal and Kiyomasa in episode one – still a love rival to Jinta, but older and more complex. In one scene, Kiyomasa actually gets furious That Jinta would give up her life with Shirayuki so easily. In this week’s episode, Kiyomasa made a left-field suggestion, and he expressed sympathy for Jinta’s child Suzune, because she couldn’t be with the person she loved either. But it’s bad storytelling. We haven’t seen Kiyomasa and Suzune exchange a word – when did he have this keen view of her?
This angle is forgotten when Jinta meets an ape-Demon, which brings him to the interests of hatred for his competitors. The ape doesn’t look as bad as some of the show’s low-rent monsters, but it’s still bad – see how it lightly “bombed” it into the air during its first skirmish with Jinta. Our hero finally solved the beast’s scam and killed it, and that seemed to be that.
The obvious problem is that we seem to have seen everything between Jinta, Shirayuki and Kiyomasa. By the end of the first time, Gilta seemed to have overcome Shirayuki’s sorrow COUR. Yes, Kiyomasa’s fate is ambiguous – he is dragged away by a demonic woman and we will never see him again. Maybe he will be Suzune’s demonized servant in a future episode, but I’m skeptical of his arc with an interesting attitude.
The final minutes of the episode jump back to the present, with a glimpse of some familiar characters, though there is no indication whether Natsu is still in Edo after the crash of the last episode. Someone talked about Kadono’s Curse Sword, bought by some Japanese big wigs…and then, there was no time for this episode and we wanted to know where it all was. The sword is related to Suzune or a new rival, should we care? Honestly, this episode is a really bad way to start a new one COUR. Rating: Must be done better, fast!
