Episode 14 – Sakamoto Days

As the show is getting further and further away from comedy lately, I’m glad this episode offers Shishiba and Osaragi in a short short form. It’s not anything special, as it’s mostly just centered around Shishiba trying to enjoy a bowl of food, and Osaragi tends to think too literally, but it’s a nice enough setup for comedy skits and does a great job of completing their current weird couple dynamics. I’m not sure if this is a one-time deal or if we’re going to get more shorts throughout the season, but since the action scenes may dominate the show for the foreseeable future, I don’t mind getting something that can help them get rid of something.

The main part of the episode also begins with a rather relaxing taste as Sakamoto brings Shin and Lu to restore his old medic friend named Chiyo. It was a good cooling after last week’s heavy episodes, but the scene didn’t work much. We did post some comments from Chiyo about how these kids made Sakamoto better, but since we didn’t know much about his condition before we settled down, there was no deeper understanding of our character except his representative. The job that the scene can do is help build Sakamto’s next fight, as Chiyo warns that he is only 30% strong and decides to make his body lighter by hitting one of his own pressures to help him. We only learn how the impact Gao Jue ended up with another serial killer and Sakamto’s intervention to help him help him. Sakamoto soon realizes that Chiyo prevents him from being as slim as usual and is now forced to fight on a regular scale, but does not become a barrier, but rather makes him learn that being overweight does not mean that he still cannot accept his body in time and accept his body in the current way. Given that the show doesn’t have cheap fat jokes about Sachama’s expenses (and early parts of the comics) it’s refreshing to see the series finally get rid of that. Even if this could be due to an overall shift in the story’s tone rather than actual correction, the result is still good. Plus, I can’t think of a better body positive ad instead of watching Sakamoto launch a serial killer at Tokyo Tower and go all out. Although this is the most typical action-movie-like part of the episode, it’s the weird one with the most famous animation shortcuts. I’m willing to give this pass because of the many moments before it, like characters swinging over buildings or Sakamoto catching bullets with chopsticks, and since these dramas are better than last week’s products, I’m very happy with the action scenes we came here.

This extends to another battle we got this week, and we see what happened after a killer. At first, when AOI suddenly starts beating him, it seems like we have an interesting subversion of expectations, but we quickly find out that it is Nagumo’s disguise. I hope the show follows this. Of course, we know that disguise is Nagumo’s business, and we haven’t seen any signs that AOI is not just a normal woman, but it’s not that she doesn’t know Sakamoto’s past life, so I can easily accept his ideas because he played some assassin’s revenge in this assassin and could reveal some of his skills as dangerous as she was, and could be as dangerous as her and be as dangerous as her husband. Aside from the slight disappointment, the fight itself is still very good, as Nagumo just keeps messing with the guy by doing things like stealing things from his pocket or having him sure the blades he will use on him, and the latter sees some of his best animations as some of Nagumo’s best animations as Nagumo whips his set of blades and then opens the killer, like opening the door. Because of how important the show is to the action, it would be nice if these sequences are more consistent throughout the quality COURso I’d be happy to take over anything. While Nagumo’s battle was great, the plot stopped and we could end Sakamoto’s Tower Battle, so we had to wait another week to see how it ended. But if it’s like anything we’ve gotten this week, I’m sure it’s going to speak out.
