Season 2 Kaiju No. 8 Opening up with a strong leading plot has put us in new norms.
The first scene is a wise decision by the performer. A lot happened last season, and there was always a temptation to be a summary of the rest rewards. This is usually a flashback sequence, or passed through display by one or more characters. Season 2 takes another route, instead giving us a dream sequence of things that never really happened. It is a dream kaiju attack that blends Kafka’s memories and events that combine with real events but are not exactly the same. Kafka runs with Mina and protects her, just stands out from the smoke and becomes the flame of Mina and other Wehrmacht soldiers, while he transforms to create a very compelling scene. This produces an emotional retelling of previous events, but not literally, and it works very well. I also have to mention the score, aiming to adopt similar akira ifukubeThe classic Godzilla scored but separated from them. well done.
The rest of the plot focuses on keeping us paced with Shinomiya and her new position in the top division of the Wehrmacht. It all was a very good deal, from a sequence of action with a legally distinctive Godzilla and many tactical military actions to comedy defeats, spinning around the new Captain Narumi. Narumi’s Japanese and British Vas made me laugh, Narumi made a sound when she was kicked by Trojan Valley, and honestly I wouldn’t mind this being a running gag, in pure aesthetics, the super-capable Hallbird/spear strike is very cool, and Shin Godzilla– Style splash of red guts on land.
The all-round bombing of this season begins, and I look forward to more.
