The look on Naofumi’s face in the screenshot perfectly sums up my reaction to the episode. I don’t know how the show speeds up the above drama with backstory, family drama, divine intervention and resolutions for fifteen minutes, but we’re here somehow. I sound like a record-breaking record, but if there is such a huge conflict between sisters, if there is any proper setting, or if Sadina herself is more of a brilliant character, there is more emotional weight behind it. Oh, she’s been around and she mentions how her family got screwed up, which is part of the reason she left, but similar to the way the first half of the season’s show suddenly turned into about the White Tiger siblings, now that show suddenly appears on the two Whale sisters.
I love Sadeena’s twists and didn’t even know she had an older sister, but it felt like to create a convenient situation, Sadeena didn’t need to feel intimate because she didn’t realize she wasn’t leaving anything behind. If there is some lasting introspection at this moment, it will become more tense and dramatic. But instead, we have to discover information and then make a solution in this annoying battle. I don’t have any tension because what happened in the battle is really shallow. Sadeena begged her sister just that she didn’t have to listen to their family anymore, but I feel like we have different feelings for Shildina’s situation because she was treated like garbage most of her life and suffered a huge sense of inferiority. You will not only solve this problem in a few minutes. You might argue that this is foreshadowed with a lot of drinking, but that’s more than anything else, and considering that most of the conflict of anger comes from a drunken coma, it feels like that show tries to hold hands slightly in the way the character interacts. Why does it seem like Shildina is sober rather than really remembering the scenes of what happened in the battle? It negates any meaningful conversation she had with her sister.
This hasn’t even entered the second half of the plot, and it feels like something is happening. I’m sure this is a prophecy in the original light novel, but we have another new character introduction, and they’ll certainly spend more time leaving Raphtalia. Now, before the season is over, we are quickly fighting in the capital, and I put all my money on this unsatisfactory conclusion. We still shift the focus away from the various characters, and to speed things up, we introduce the world to the more natural elements and laws, and I don’t even know how this arc will end without fundamentally changing the entire dynamic development of the show. I don’t want this to be less than boring slogans or large train wreckage, I hope this is the latter because at least it will be more interesting than anything you’ve got so far.
