After many episodes dancing around the issue, Ravtolia is finally willing to stand and announces that she is ready to take responsibility for the next emperor. The show treats it like this should be such a huge and profound character moment, but since the show actually reaches that, it feels shallow. Raphtalia has had few agencies on the show for a while and I’m looking forward to her regaining the agency after she rotates around her. I still think the premise of the arc is incredibly stupid and artificial, but I always build characters on a plot that executes perfectly. But when the execution of the plot contrasts directly with the emotional journey of the characters, it is the worst world of both worlds. If this moment between Raphtalia and Sadeena’s obvious sister, if Raphtalia was the moment when she was actively pursuing the Emperor’s position from the very beginning.
However, this wasn’t even her initial thought. The only reason we are here is because Naofumi explains vaguely that they should use Raphtalia’s abilities to leverage their positions in order to gather troops for their personal careers. The show still never details whether he really plans to have Raphtalia go to the mantle or if Raphtalia says she doesn’t want the position at all, he will do it. I like the fact that he kept saying the decision was her, but until now she just went through the action, which was probably the first thing she had as a character in a while, which was sad. If you think about it, there isn’t really a deep attitude, but the show still manages to make it feel really superficial because I just don’t want to see Raphtalia’s emotions, but just she just doesn’t want to see people suffering.
I think this is my direction Shield Hero Going in all the time; everything becomes a very straightforward story of good and evil. There is no real debate or political conspiracy here, everything is seriously stupid. The emperor is corrupt and therefore needs to be knocked down, but it turns out that the emperor is just a child of a poster, manipulated by a blatantly evil supervisor, who has great similarities with the bitch. Maybe it was intentional because I know it might be a disguise, but I can easily see writers conceived the character in order to make us hate someone. There is no real reason for anything that is happening in this country to suffer all people from misleading traditions and selfish greed. It’s easy for me to stand by the hero, but it just makes everything so boring.
At this point, I just spent these episodes watching characters talk about what they were going to do and then slowly watched them do these things. There is no deeper meaning, no conspiracy or twists. Hell, the most interesting thing about this episode is that I obviously had a real quick cut that I spent my whole life in his life. I’d rather watch any weird crazy adventure this crazy mad man has than anything that actually happens in the main plot. Can we get a rotation series? If the manufacturer insists on drying this to the bone Franchise Still, can the show at least be creative?
