Episode 10 – Secrets of the Silent Witch

It’s a mystery why Monica is as powerless as her since the show begins. Of course, her uncle treats her father’s death as a pain, but she will never be open to anyone until she meets Lana during her second school trip. With this episode, we get a lot of revelation: In fact, she opens up to someone: Bernie Jones, the talented young mage at the Magic Academy of Monica. It is an understatement to say that things end with sourness.

Bernie is a child with an advantageous complex. Not only is he talented, but he was told throughout his life that he was special. He takes it in mind with all the benefits and disadvantages. Because he is better than everyone else, he feels the need to prove it. But he doesn’t do things like bullying others. That would not give him any praise or enhance his beliefs. Instead, he chose to help the people below him “kindly” – people he could raise and use to perform well. After all, it will show that he is not only the top class in his class, but he also has the time and ability to raise others.

Young Monica is the ideal goal. An orphan ordinary person is about the low point on the social ladder, especially once you add someone who is absolutely lacking in charm. She quickly leaned on him and he “generously” helped her cover up her fault. As long as the hierarchy between them is clear and unchanged, everything is fine. Even if Monica is wearing some powerful suits, their friendship will continue as long as she doesn’t surpass him socially or academically.

Of course, once it changes, Bernie’s reaction is not good. By becoming the latest saint, she suddenly surpassed him in social status. She is now second only to the royal family of fame and power. He knew exactly how to hurt her and did so, hindering her social growth and putting her into quarantine in the mountains.

Now, that’s not to say that Bernie realizes what he is doing- he’s a kid, far from self-attacking, unable to understand why he feels and acts like he does. All he knew was that his worldview was overturned. He was betrayed by his Lackey and he helped him a lot. Now, she showed off her new discovery advantage in front of him – and grabbed him. So he attacked.

Now, removed from these events for a few years, the question is what kind of person Bernie has become. Did he reflect his past actions and abandon his pride and self-offensive and maturity for his own shame? Or did he double down and refuse to regard friendship as a friendship between equality?

Even their party can be seen in two ways. Monica looks at it in the worst way, and if he recognizes her, he will bully her emotionally again. So she breathed a sigh of relief when he seemed to have not made a connection.

But, although he did know her, he didn’t want to blow on her cover. After all, she obviously introduced him under a pseudonym, which means she is on a special mission. His raising of their former friendship might be the threat he told her that her secret was safe, not Monica was worried about. After all, even if he still has a negative view of her, intervention in one of the seven sages is far from the best way to be a person in the future.

Either way, this is another challenge for Monica. Unlike before, she now has a group of real friends and noble acquaintances in the corner to support her. She not only has to complete the task (whether she knows it herself or not).
