PA works One of my favorite studios when it comes to making the original project and the batting average in the department is pretty good and has created such a show The calm of the sea and Shirobako. While not all original works are winners, I still have enough confidence in their work because they can all put their new works on my radar, so I really want to check out this premiere in person to see what it has to offer. Based on what is displayed, my impression of this is somewhat mixed.
The group is not the first episode, but shows “Episode 0”, an event in the main story. The premiere follows a young man named Akira who lives with a scientist named Kazuya after losing her parents, as well as his daughter Towa, who, despite her smallness, became the world leader in AI and pioneered the development of Androids. For the most part, this premiere is a disagreement between science fiction and romantic comedy. In the context of the program environment, there is much debate around the moral implications of Towa’s Android development and the use of AI to create artificial life or through the use of cybernetics. Given that AI is the current topic of discussion, it is the element of the most interesting premiere I found, and while having the premiere follow the part of the character attempt to spread its use further, the effect of spreading it further is somewhat questionable due to the negative effects of its current real world, the discussion so far seems to focus more on the ethics of creating artificial life than anything else. While the premiere isn’t spent on this topic as I wanted, it happens to be something I’m curious to see how to explore it further in the main series.
On the other hand, the romantic aspect of this premiere is where I feel the most chaotic because it centers on Akira and Towa. While it’s hard not to have a “disagreement” relationship, I personally am not something I think of instant transactions, and this episode is indeed more like a childhood friend than a childhood friend than a successor to a blotsiblings, so the awkward tension between the two of them turns into cuteness. Still, given this particular angle, when they try to go out for a date, each of them feels embarrassed when they are considering upgrading to not siblings to a couple. It’s not the worst thing, but it does make this relationship so important to the story. Romantic angles and sci-fi settings come together at the climax of this premiere. While the twists here are quite predictable, they do help as a more interesting story set-up. Although this premiere didn’t win me, I would love to know where the rest went. If you’re looking for a new sci-fi series to check out, this may be worth watching for fall.
