about Rascal doesn’t dream The series is its mystery. Almost always, you can figure out what’s going on with a tight conversation, exploring the subject and visual storytelling situation. Trying to do this is half the fun, and although not explicitly stated, we have a lot of hints about Ikumi’s situation for this episode. So let’s see if we can’t stimulate the truth about the Ikumi case.
Last week, we looked at the reasons that made Ikumi tick on a personal level – how her choice didn’t help Sakuta in his pubertal syndrome original brush, making her feel so introverted that she developed a Messian complex. Now, she is self-sacrificing herself – proactively looking for people who can be saved and ways to cost her well-being. However, this seems to have only one layer of what is going on.
The focus of this episode is on the bet between Ikumi and Sakuta – she manages to forget him, or he has to remember “what happened that day”. Both outcomes will end her puberty syndrome, according to Ikumi. Unfortunately, Sakuta spent a lot of time barking at the wrong tree. He saw what happened to Ikumi and her “Poltergeist” and couldn’t help but think that something similar to Kaede.
However, in the Poltergeist attack, the message on Ikumi’s arm hints at the truth of the phrase “Are you okay?” And “Sorry for Sprains.” Then there is a fact that Sakuta’s yearbook information is very different from what Ikumi told him. Finally, we have two episodes of scenes, and Sakuta sees it again from The rogue dream of a backpack boy. All of these are possible conclusions: This Ikumi is not Ikumi Sakuta has gone to school. This is Ikumi from the Perfect World in the previous movie.
In that movie, the perfect world ikumi and Sakuta have only a few scenes. Among them, he questioned why she followed him to high school in a perfect world schedule to frustrate her and run away. It seems like what’s going on here is a perfect world, and Ikumi watches Sakuta overcome Kaede’s puberty syndrome alone (or help him do it). Then she fell in love with him and followed him to the high school of his choice, which could only make him fall in love with Mai in the end. Meanwhile, Ikumi of Sakuta feels indulgent because of Sakuta’s situation, but never has any real relationship with him when he was in middle school. Then, as the two Ikumi’s adolescent syndrome develops, they switch schedules (like everything Sakuta does in his perfect world in the movie).
This brings Sakuta’s Ikumi into the perfect world and gets rid of her inner gut as the perfect world Sakuta overcomes Kaede’s adolescence syndrome. On the other hand, the perfect world Ikumi no longer has any real relationship with Sakuta and has a chance to escape her unrequited love and move on – if not for Sakuta being forced to intervene in any cases of puberty syndrome he encountered.
Unfortunately, their exchange also seems to have a major side effect. Sometimes their bodies resynchronize, resulting in the poltergeist phenomenon. This means that the world that should be perfect ikumi was injured in the main timeline (such as spraining her arm) and then it will eventually be transferred to her original body, where Ikumi of Sakuta is currently living. However, this allows at least the two to send messages to each other by writing down their bodies before the exchange.
Of course, while all the works seem to fit what I wrote above, the fact is that my explanation may be far from it. Still, there is an anime that encourages you to interact in this way, which is great – dissecting what you see and hear, even going back to past episodes or movies with new eyes, looking for clues. I just love anime that forces me to think – working hard for “Eureka Moment” – which will definitely do that.

Random thought:
•jeez, this anime wants you to have encyclopedic memories in every character. Frankly, I can remember who Kano only saw her once in a movie I saw two years ago.
•So, Sakuta managed to remember Kirishima’s phone number?
•The jump cuts in this animation can be as shocking as hell. There was a moment when we were mid-term, and the next few days later.
•Is Sakuta still working in Benny’s part-time job, or does he walk into the staff room randomly if he thinks he is?
