Controversial ‘Suk-yeol Yoon Train’ Cartoon to Return at Bucheon International Comics Festival After 3 Years – News

When it was first exhibited in 2022, the cartoon became a flash point of political controversy
The ironic cartoon Suk-yeol Yoon train sparked controversy in 2022 as it portrays former South Korean President Yoon and his wife, which will hold a public exhibition at the Bucheon International Comics Festival for the first time in three years.
South Korea Manhava The Directory Agency (KOMCA) announced on September 3 that the 28th Bucha International Comics Festival will be held in South Korea from September 26 to 28. Manhava The museum is dining in cloth. This year’s show includes a special display of work from 2021 to 2025, which includes past winners of the student comic contest. Among them is Suk-Yeol Yoon Train, the 2022 gold medal winner.
The cartoon depicts a train with a front face, driven by a character widely interpreted as his wife, Kim Keon-Hee. Passengers inside the train included prosecutors wielding their swords, and frightened citizens seemed to flee the road.
When the cartoon was first exhibited at the Bucheon International Comics Festival in 2022, it became a flash point in political controversy. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a harsh warning to the agency, withdrew sponsorship recognition and drastically reduced government subsidies. As a result, this work has been excluded from the exhibition in the past two years.
The restoration of the original state marks the first public display since the cartoon was suspended.
Suk-Yeol Yoon announced martial law on December 4, 2024. Yoon cited the opposition’s boycott of his rule as the reason for the announcement. After the announcement, the President of the Yuan Dynasty tried to abolish the National Assembly and arrest opposition lawmakers and media figures. He was impeached earlier this year.
