Staff Anne Shirleya new anime Lucy Maud MontgomeryClassic Green Gable Annie The novel series announced Wednesday that the animation’s two new actors will begin on July 19.

The anime premiered on April 5th NHK Education 6:25 pm (5:25 AM ET). The show will have a total of 24 episodes.

The first novel is in the late 19th century in Avonlea, a fictional town of Prince Edward, Canada, where an 11-year-old orphan girl named Anne Shirley was mistakenly sent to middle-aged siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. The siblings initially planned to adopt a boy to help them on the farm. The novel tells the story of Anne’s adventures in school and in town.
The anime adaptation will portray Anne’s growth from a girl to a woman through her bond with her siblings Matthew and Marilla, her friendship with Diana, and her romance with Gilbert. (Some of these story elements appear in later sequel novels from Montgomery.)
