Episodes 1-6 – The Fated Magical Princess: Who Made Me a Princess

Have you noticed anything…leave About how the story unfolds? Like maybe something happened that wasn’t depicted on screen? If so, then your money is right because Destined Magical Princess: Who made me a princess? In the process of moving from the page to the screen, a very interesting choice was made: the original story is “Another World”.

Now, I promise not to use these reviews to talk about the differences between webcomics and anime, but indulge me because it does matter. In the original comic, Athanasia wakes up and finds herself a baby, living in the world of the novel she once read. cute princess. She’s the framed villain of the piece, the titular princess is Janet, and Elsie’s whole goal is to avoid her character’s fate in the novel. Not only does this explain why she’s been so mentally mature from day one, but it also provides a more organic reason for her to be aware of her situation. When she truly understood what was going to happen to her, things like storing precious gems and gold made sense.

But I can only think this is a bit of recognition of the over-saturation of isekai, and the adaptation takes a different approach: Athy yes The eponymous cute princess (you can see this in the book cover of the opening theme), who gets all her information through dreams. The genre works from a strictly fantasy perspective (although it fails to account for her level of consciousness and intelligence at such a young age), but also gives her late mother Diana more of a role. But in terms of how the overall production and Elsie’s character fit together, let alone Lucas’ comments about Elsie changing the trajectory of the story and switching worlds in episode six, it feels awkward. I’m really not sure what they had in mind, despite some flippant comments about isekai being everywhere. Over the course of these six episodes (out of a projected sixteen), this is an issue, albeit a minor one.

Fortunately, it’s enjoyable in almost every other way. Part of the subgenre of “pampered baby” stories (in which a precious and precocious child melts a violent heart; see also emperor’s daughter), the central relationship is now between Elsie and her estranged father, Claude. Her mother died shortly after Assi was born, and Claude abandoned his daughter, apparently trying to cope with the pain of losing her by forgetting his beloved wife and their child. It’s easy to see how Diana’s death dragged Claude into the depths of depression – he had barely any clothes on, he ruined her portrait, he couldn’t even look at their child. When he finally meets Elsie as a toddler, he doesn’t know what to do with her or how to interact with the child. Watching poor Arcee, who knows from her dreams that he will later evict her for Janet, trying to figure out why he’s carrying her like a sack of potatoes and glaring at her across a coffee table filled with pastries is one of the best-done elements of the early part of the story.

Because of Claude Do Cares about her – he’s just been emotionally closed off for so long that he’s forgotten how to express it. By episode six, it’s clear he loves his daughter and is grateful to Lucas for saving her, but the foundation was laid in previous episodes. When he ascended the throne, watching him let her run free in the palace, or pick her up and sit on his lap, expressed his adoration, even if his face was always a blank mask. Ash was still unsure of his situation, but no one else had any doubt that he cared.

Even though the political front is quite moderate at the moment, it still exists. Duke Alpheus constantly tries to get Assi and Claude to agree to let him send his son Ezekiel (comics The spelling of the name; sorry, I can’t write “Ijikiel” like in the sub. This makes me sad. ) and Ward Janet become her study partners or playmates, and Elsie thwarts him every time, understandably worried about how they will affect her attempts to escape her fate. Meanwhile, Lucas is clearly a very powerful wizard who’s hiding the truth (and his actual age) in order to spy on Elsie for his own reasons, while various servants in early episodes were clearly intent on taking advantage of Cloud’s disinterest. Essie himself is the focus, but it feels like these different political elements will be important in the future, and I appreciate the effort to sow them so early.

magical princess of destiny For the most part, aside from this one major difference, it looks to be a faithful adaptation of the story and artwork. I love that all of Athy’s dresses have continued in this new medium and I already find myself looking forward to this every week. I’m not sure sixteen episodes will be enough to fully tell the story at the current pace, but I’m certainly excited to stick with it and find out.
