A new bipartisan core group dedicated to supporting the Korean comics and online industries will be officially launched in the National Assembly this month.
this Manhava The Webtoon Association General Federation announced that it will be held on September 25 (KST) in the second session room of the National Assembly Members’ Office Building for the first ceremony for “National Assembly members who love comics and web dramas.”
The organization, participated by cross-party legislators, aims to strengthen the cultural and industrial status of comics and web dramas, as one of the representative content areas of South Korea. The caucus was initiated by Democratic Rep. Young-Seok SEO and Seung-Su Kim of the People’s Power Party.
Organizers stressed that the caucus will promote policies to enhance creators’ rights, promote healthier industry ecosystems, create a safe environment for young readers, and expand global market opportunities.
The release marks the first formal cross-party effort within the National Assembly to develop policies for the development of the Webtoon industry. Industry officials say the core group can be an important focus in developing practical policies and institutional support, thus benefiting creators, companies and readers.
