Episode 19 – Kaiju No. 8 Season 2

Episode 19 Kaiju No. 8 Despite a fairly transparent approach, the next wave of Kaiju Hunters was successfully established.

The heart of this week’s outing is Ichikawa’s attempt to master Kaiju No. 6 power. I’m a little different about this situation. On the one hand, the setting is a classic kaiju thing, and the monster has some key touches that I really like. This battle makes sense to happen in the vast wilderness. The Kaiju Project’s military or military hatred groups often remove large monsters from the center of the city to minimize collateral damage. It prevents Kaiju from having many simple goals and allows heroes to cut off with all the heavy firepower they want without worrying about hurting civilians. Ichikawa’s test scene is exactly what it is here, letting him try out his new ice-based powers, with as little life as possible, not to mention the rest of the Defence Force is waiting on the wings to deploy in his mind.

The problem I have with the setup is that, by definition, this limits the bets of the battle. Trying to make this feel like Ichikawa is doing it for others, and to be sure that if he was stronger in the past, he might alleviate some of the problems he had with his teammates. But speaking out, until now, he hasn’t had a lot of agents, and it’s hard to take this as seriously as he does. In the past, we have not spent much time with Ichikawa in the past, and at present, no one has many direct dangers. It was melodious, but it wasn’t that sincere or effective.

That is, the moment of glory in Furuhashi is very effective. We have seen enough people feel his presence in the narrative, which means he has a chance to shine. Perhaps most importantly, he is working to save Ichikawa and convince the commander to give him a chance to give him a moment of higher bets than Ichikawa almost by default. It all blends together to make this episode very good.
