OK, so I guess this solves the problem of basically being Satsuki’s arc and has a lot to like. By far, Satsuki is easily my favorite character because while I do find Renako’s insecurity the most relevant, I think Satsuki has a chaotic yet compassionate blend. Satsuki’s entire deal is that she hopes to look better than she does. So far, this is different from the insecurity shown by other girls. She has a kind heart because she understands some hardships, which is why she can see what Mai is going through and provide some emotional outlet. She was able to jab at Mai because she was arguably the only one who saw Mai in such a vulnerable state. She can be seen through people and is probably the most self-conscious person in the entire cast so far, but unlike the others, she likes to be a little evil. She likes a bit of a bit, and my favorite part is when she uses her friendly speech as a distracting strategy to make a headshot. If Satsuki had a romantic feel for Mai, the show was still a little ambiguous, and I don’t think she would deny it was funny. However, the point of the situation is that she has always been Mai’s good friend.
The problem is that while Satsuki certainly got some emotional catharsis from the whole situation, I definitely don’t know if Mai actually learned anything. Remember, the whole arc started because Mai did go beyond the boundaries of being friends with Satsuki and she deliberately went beyond those boundaries after believing that Satsuki had a strong relationship with her. She is actually planning to use Satsuki’s feelings for some kind of self-punishment or self-actualization. When it happened, it was screwed up, but did the show solve this? It can be said not.
The entire curved frame Satsuki encountered a breakthrough point, and I can understand that the specific situation was breaking the straw on the camel’s back, and I understand her desire to return to Mai. Mai is definitely worth it, but I don’t think Mai actually recognizes or is correctly told what she did wrong. There is no real conversation about this particular situation, but there is no conversation about what Mai is really doing to Satsuki as a friend. Mai is someone Satsuki can sympathize with, and Mai is someone Satsuki can work hard to defeat like an opponent. Mai at least has enough self-awareness to the latter, because she will talk about Satsuki, just like she doesn’t want to offend halfway through honor. But even at this climax, I don’t know that Mai actually gave Satsuki or… anyone, actually as a real friend.
It’s frustrating because Mai’s entire obsession with Renako stems from her feelings, like no one really understands her or can sympathize with her life. The entire climax is about Satsuki getting to know and illuminating, who has been arguably the number one person in Mai’s life since they were children. She is someone who helps Mai’s mom realize she’s overworked since she was a kid, which means there are multiple instances where Mai goes to the place where Satsuki cries or vents. It can be said that this is more than what Renako has done for her, but is Renako the one who Mai is in love? Maybe I’ve simplified things too much, but the show doesn’t emphasize what the difference is, and I think it’s because the show is scared to introduce any details outside of Mai’s behavior or worldview to joke. If the show actually does get involved, it will have to solve the horror of a person, and it would be nice if the show wants to be a better person for her, but that’s not the case. I don’t know what lessons I learned at the end of this episode outside of Satsuki, and finally became modest. Even if the arc is about Satsuki, it still rotates around Mai and its behavior. The whole ending was a bit hollow for me with their memory of Satuki’s birthday, because it still felt like Mai got easier.
Thank God, this episode is fun. Everything from Satsuki’s conversations to the way anime visually represents the FPS Championships is great. Recreated a fully 3D shooting environment, like they just drew a map from it, with a lot of effort call of Duty,Very good. I actually like the fact that the show sometimes cuts between the 3D model and the 2D character design. Plus the timing of people being shot caused a lot of laughter. It felt like a show, putting a lot of effort into such an annoying script. If Mai was taken away from the show, then I think everything would be much better, but the problem is, if you take her out, then there is no show because everything is spinning around her behavior. Obviously, a new arc should start next week, with the focus on Ajisai, and I’m really curious to consider her slow accumulation in the background. I really hope it won’t start like the last two arcs.
