Episode 18 – Sakamoto Days

This week we have another sketch of the post-loan introduction, which focuses mainly on his bankruptcy. This time we saw that he couldn’t even afford a cheap bowl of ramen, and the only thing that stopped him from starving was his pet bird, which helped him to discover the pretty rocks it found locally. The starter didn’t have real meals, but separated some bread from the others, and while it was lovely, it mainly made me wonder how the poor guy survived so far.

I’m at least very happy with the actual plot, which is mostly improved after my complaints about the need for this arc to be changed. It’s still a bit slow to start with Shin and Sakamoto’s previous fights, but they do provide at least some interesting interactions. Once Shin defeated the Edgelord child he was fighting, he decided to leave him alone, which left him enough to start following him. Unfortunately for Shin, the kid proved very annoying soon, as he kept complaining about dealing with an average boy of 14 years old is indeed accurate, but it is indeed very accurate, but it still won’t make Shin endure it here and blend their scenes together, which is not difficult. Meanwhile, we see Sakamoto continue to help last week’s blue-haired girl, who finally revealed her name is Akira. She still feels very out of place in this show, but at least it’s interesting to see Sakamoto bring out his inner father to help her figure out how to raise herself for herself in this killer.

The real major attraction of this episode is the new characters it introduces. I said last time, I felt the show wasn’t doing enough here to tend to make the exam arcs in other Shonen series so effective, and one of the often underrated ones is having a wildcard that is mostly just causing problems. Take the Hunter Exam Hunter X HunterWe have Hisoka in this role, and here we get it in the form of Kanaguri: an exam examiner who is working as a well-known film director and producer in his day-to-day work. But, as you might expect from this show, he is not a regular auteur, because the movies he specializes in is an Assassin Flick. Although he himself is a very skilled killer, the only thing he has to do is that he can use it as the material for the latest artwork.

Needless to say, he was really happy and he almost stole the show. Part of it is the plot willing to listen to his movie fans and see him from passion to hostility for the second time, Edgelord Kid talks about liking VTubers and reading internet summary instead of actually watching movies (this communication is almost too real, is that wondering if that is the case Yūto Suzuki If the experience of talking to a teenager at some point) makes him as fun as his roots. This makes it hard for Kanaguri to hate, even if he is doing things like blowing up the plane with a laser beam camera so he can get an exciting scene from it. Another reason here is to let him Dubbing go through Crispin Freemanhe is basically happy with any of his roles. This is no exception, because he obviously had a lifetime of hammering with this guy because he monologues his own art.

As the aforementioned plane explosion transitions from fighting to how to avoid death, his appearance also makes much needed changes to the show’s current lawsuit. Although we don’t see much creativity from the characters here, it’s still interesting to see Sakamoto trying to provide the most obvious solution to using his working apron (like a parachute) just because it somehow causes him to fall faster. We also see Akira here being able to use her sewing skills to help put together a better parachute quickly, and while it does feel like it plays a gender stereotype to make it one of the things she is good at, it does at least provide an interesting solution to the whole dilemma. When Sakamoto noticed that her sewing skills might be too fast here, she might have more sewing skills than it might seem at first glance, which could also be a little too fast, which also made her a little mysterious around her. Hopefully, as the show goes deeper, this should provide some extra exploration for exploration, but even if there isn’t a lot of things anywhere, we have at least more Karnaguri to look forward to. If the rest of the arc can make the most of both characters, it can be one of the best in the show.
