Episode 5 – Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra

Suppose you have seen a fair portion of your own anime, which are even battles. In this case, it’s very likely that you’ll think of more than a moment, one of our protagonists shows how powerful they are by soloing the entire other fighter (if not more or less the entire army). Some cartoons that make mistakes, some are cruel massacres. This week, mynogh Feeling that I want to achieve something closer to the latter is very eager, although I stop, e.g. Bell Warrior or Vinland Saga Massacre level. Atou literally lifts the enemy’s body and tells him, and then she kills how he will kill everyone for his preciousness. I’ve just returned from evo, so use the comparison in front of my brain: Artu did what Maynard did to Kekelu for those soldiers Street Fighter 6. Usually, I’m all scary and this kind of thing. So, why does the entire sequence feel so boring? I think it’s because it’s not fun to actually watch. Or more specifically, the wonder does not exist.
A big part of the work that makes similar sequences work is that they are energetic, exciting and simple. They can usually achieve this kind of thing through carefully choreographed elements of action, visual talent, hype music, and more. This week, Mynoghra did not. Of course we get an evil monologue from Atou, and it’s really cool. But what this energy is happening on the screen is totally unparalleled. On the one hand, Atu’s attacks are all from tentacles, visually feeling like they’re thrown in, without much consideration for cool action shooting. Frankly speaking, one simple thing Mynoghra can do may help make up for that. If in doubt, Gore works. Big, bold, bloody level on top. Plus, the harsh massacre will increase the place where Yattu threatens to kill that soldier’s loved one, because now doesn’t feel like the hollow threat we all know – all of us, we, the audience knows she’s not going to leave her home base anytime soon.
Speaking of her leaving, wow. Of course, I’m used to anime in anime, but Atou looked directly at the camera and actually said, “We’re in the world of games, unless we’re not.” On the one hand, I got it. This is the only way for Gaotu to not impress himself to achieve his goals and maintain a certain degree of mystery and excitement. But on the other hand, this is clearly the most vulnerable excuse in the world. And I think that’s the feeling because so far the only time things don’t work the way the game is when things are convenient in the game (e.g., soldiers attack).
From a practical point of view, I understand why this isn’t strictly the world of gaming, but it feels like a low-priced way to make the inconvenience of high-support because it knows that all the scenes it revolves around are a terrible excuse. Still, it’s interesting that the show tries to sell it to viewers. But then again, it’s the same show, and last week (and verified this week), Werdel acquired Atou’s entire “Haha, we’re not here to launch an evil empire” song and dance. I thought she must have put him under the spell, but that wasn’t the case. In fact, he is the one who is easily deceived. The anime doesn’t even play a joke, and it’s a great choice. Given what happened this week, I speculate that it was because the show didn’t realize how incredible it was that they made Werdel.
I think it’s safe to say that writing is seriously flawed, especially in the way it is and the reasons why the incident happened. At least twice now, we’ve seen it’s comparable excuses to “My dog eats my homework” and I can’t emphasize that enough to play those excuses. I guess if there is a silver lining, if you continue to do so, then the show might become inadvertently fun. Unfortunately, at this stage, unless things are moving faster, this may be the best option to make me more happy with me. Because again, I’ve finished this week’s episode and have no particular desire to see what happens next. And, with just as much as this one, the feeling of week after week feels even more disappointing.
