Leo arrives at a small port town on the Arabian Peninsula, not in Africa, where he meets a boy named Kenichi and is raised by him. A year later, Leo and Kenic accompanied a team of investigative agents to Moon Moon in Africa, with the aim of studying Moon Stone, a stone that generates energy. Leo, who saw the jungle for the first time, expressed disgust for wild animals killing each other. However, he restored his confidence by establishing a jungle empire to protect weak animals and became a great emperor.
The comic’s first TV anime adaptation was aired from 1965 to 1966, and its latest adaptation was titled Jungle Emperor Leo: hon-o-ji – One of many original animated shorts screened at Tezuka Osamu Animation Theater in Tezuka Osamu World in Kyoto – premiered in 2000. Tezuka first in his Mushi Production Studio, later in his Tezuka Productions Succession Studio.
