Nagano Hiyo High School announced the creation of an official idol club on October 1, and school idols will become a reality in Japan during the 2026-2027 school year. According to the school, members of the Idol Club not only produce and release original songs, but also perform after school and on weekends at concerts, events, and television and radio programs in Nagano Prefecture and across Japan. Nagano Hiyo High School also plans to hire “top coaches” to provide dance and vocal lessons.
Nagano Hiyo High School held a demonstration class during the campus open house on October 18th. The second demonstration session is scheduled for the school’s open day on November 8. The club will recruit members from the freshman class at the start of the new school year next spring.

Therefore, students who meet certain requirements (such as dance or singing experience) may be eligible for admission by recommendation, but the club also welcomes members with no experience.
Another high school, the private Saku Nagasei High School in Saku City, Nagano Prefecture, did form an ongoing idol group after launching a performing arts study course in the 2023 school year, but it stopped recruiting members. The Nagano Prefectural Government is not aware of any other high schools in the prefecture that have idol clubs.
