USJ: “To ensure the safety of our guests, we ask that you cooperate with our rules and etiquette”

Universal Studios Japan (USJ) released a statement on Friday for guests attending the Halloween Horror Nights event. Park officials said all costumes are welcome, but guests attending Halloween Horror Nights are asked to “abide by our rules and etiquette.” The post further states that guests who wear clothing that “may disrupt public order” or are “inappropriately overly revealing” may be denied entry or asked to leave the park.
The full rules can be found on the USJ website, in both Japanese and English, detailing rules for “attire (including clothing that exposes excessive amounts of skin, revealing clothing deemed inappropriate for the park, visible underwear or clothing that appears to be underwear), or clothing that violates obscenity or other laws.”
USJ’s statement appears to be in response to an Oct. 19 social media post from an attendee dressed as Bowsette, a fan-made character inspired by super mario bros. Bowser. These photos feature attendees wearing typical bondage attire with bowser horns and super crown items Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Edition Located at various locations within USJ.
USJ posted a similar statement Past Halloween Horror Nights. One of the earliest known incidents occurred in 2022, when a woman posted a photo of herself during Halloween Horror Nights wearing a costume deemed to reveal too much skin. Reports from Japanese women’s magazines City Holy Land A woman posted a photo of herself wearing lingerie on social media. Halloween Horror Nights is an annual horror event universal studios Theme parks in Orlando, Hollywood, Japan and Singapore. The event features a haunted house, scare zone and performances, and USJ’s version allows guests to attend in costume.
